Franciscan mission in Holy Land expands JERUSALEM (10-15-2010) - At the invitation of His Beatitude Fouad Twal, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, the Franciscan Sisters have begun a new aspect of mission in the Holy Land. Sister Monica Navalta, FSE began work as English secretary and translator in the office of the Latin Patriarchate on October 1st. Mother Shaun Vergauwen, Mother General, accepted the Patriarch's invitation to assign a Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist to the position in Jerusalem for, as she told the Community, "we are privileged to serve the Church in this way and we take on this mission in a spirit of support for the authority of the Church, in continuity with our past 32 years of service in the Holy Land." The Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist have been serving in the Holy Land since 1978.
